Sri Lankan born 14 year old Yevin Samararatne demonstrated his golf skill by winning the Jack Newton Internatonal Junior Golf Classic tournament conducted on the 18 hole Jack Newton designed golf course located in the Hunter Valley CESSNOCK Golf Club in New Castle NSW between the 2 nd and 5 th October.Yevin’s victory was more significant as he had triumphed over 90 golfers in his age group who had participated from all states and also from overseas countries. His victory proved that he is the best junior golf player Down Under. All Sri Lankans should be proud of his achievement.

In around year 2004 during another peak period of Sri Lankan cricket a novice Angelo Mathews walked in to the national side. After having captained his alma-mater at Darley Road, he strolled into the Test side as an all-rounder. Having risen from adversity Angelo has been a model illustration of resuscitating spiritedly salvaging the side numerous spells in all formats.

Sri Lanka was bruised, battered and whitewashed twice in both formats by the formidable Proteas. The losing streak sustained in the identical vein. In order to have even a slight chance, the writer believes drastic changes in the composition of the playing eleven is of prime status with the ICC World Cup 2019 looming in June this year.

Countdown timer clocks to speed up the pace of play in Test cricket, free hits for no-balls in the longer format and the use of a standard ball in the World Test Championship are some of the radical proposals put forth by the MCC World Cricket Committee to "improve the spectacle" of the format.
