Cricketer Thisara Perera says he aims to bring a Cricket World Cup to Sri Lanka.
Speaking at a press conference after the 4th one day match against South Africa at Pallekele Cricket Stadium, he said he is happy about winning after several losses. Man of the Match Dasun Chanaka also joined the press conference.
Although the initial target was to score 280 runs with Dasun Chanaka, since the ball appeared more clearly in the latter half of the match, was possible to score 300 runs, he added. He further said it was a difficult task to build a 100 runs partnership when the opponent team’s bowling was outstanding.
“My hope is to bring a World Cup to Sri Lanka. When I perform well, it is my team that benefits from it. When we pursue a target, it is our team that benefits from it, and must support it. When we are bowling, we need another one from the team to field. I cannot do everything by myself.”
Thisara Perera added that all eleven members of the team support this endeavor. Dasun Chanaka, who became the Man of the Match, said he wanted to support the team by batting.
“I did not want to surpass anyone. But when the bowling skills of the South African team was weakened, I was able to hit sixes. As a team, we take decisions after discussing with senior members of the team, and we took the right decisions,” Dasun Chanaka added.
