Rangana Herath to lead Sri Lanka in Test series against Bangladesh

Rangana Herath has been appointed to lead Sri Lanka in the forthcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. Senior player Rangana Herath performed admirably captaining Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe last year

The Sri Lanka Cricket has also announced the recalling of left arm orthodox spinner Malinda Pushpakumara who has had a prolific domestic season and against for Sri Lanka A against the touring England Lions in which he captured 13 for 205 during the past weekend

These are the only squad details released so far, however. It is likely the remainder of the squad has not been picked yet - an earlier release stated the selectors are due to meet on Tuesday to pick the rest of the squad
Rangana Herath remained the frontrunner for the post of captaincy though Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga may have been considered for the captaincy in Angelo Mathews' absence. He had led Sri Lanka to a 2-0 series victory in Zimbabwe in October and November when he took 19 wickets in the two Tests at an average of 15.10.
The presence of the two left-arm orthodox spinners may place left-arm wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan's place in doubt.
The first of Sri Lanka's two Tests against Bangladesh begins on March 7 at the Galle International Stadium.
