Wickremesinghe sets world record in his coming as new PM

Date:

Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe has arguably made a world record in his swearing in as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka today (12).

This is mainly because there is no politician in Sri Lanka, or arguably the World, who had managed to assume the Office of a Prime Minister after being able to secure only 20,000 preferential votes in their last General Election in a rejection by the public and being able to enter Parliament via the only National List seat secured by their political party.

In addition, he has also set another world recording by becoming a Prime Minister for the sixth time in his political career.
