President responds to the letter sent by Sajith Premadasa

The President has sent a letter in response to a letter sent by the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday (12) regarding his assumption of the post of Prime Minister.

The President has stated that he had initially invited Sajith Premadasa to form a new government, but when he refused, he discussed with other parties and as a result appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister.

The President has also invited Sajith Premadasa in his letter to inform him immediately if any member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya agrees to be included in the Cabinet as it is in the national interest to find a solution to the current political crisis.
