Speaking to the media today (03) Dr. Gamini Jayatissa, Director of Landslide Research Division of the National Building Research Organization, said that if the signs of landslides are observed, evacuate from the places as the ground is very wet due to the current rainy weather.

As indicated by Kalaguna Department, the total rainfall has reached the limit of 250-300 mm in some areas and since the weather with this rainfall may last until the 5th, Jayatissa mentioned that these few days could be dangerous.

However, Jayatissa said that even now, duties are being considered as an emergency situation and all officials have been called and informed about how to act.

The director explained that due to the rain received yesterday and the previous days, landslides and landslides have been warned and red notices of landslides have been issued in several districts from 07.30 last night to 07.30 tonight.

Accordingly, red notices have been issued in Valasmulla in Hambantota district, Yatianthota in Kegalle district, Pasgoda in Matara district, Ambagamuwa Koralaya and Kothmale in Nuwara Eliya district, Imbulpe, Kalawana, Kahawatta, Kuruvita and Nivithigala in Ratnapura district.
