SL to receive US$ 01 bn debt from India

An online discussion was held between Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar this (15) morning regarding the issuance of letters of credit (15) for a US$ 01 billion debt to purchase essential commodities including food and a debt of US$ 500 million to purchase fuel.

The two also discussed about extending the US$ 400 million exchange rate.

Appreciating the government’s move of developing the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex, India’s External Affairs Minister Jaishankar emphasised that India intends to assist Sri Lanka along with other international partners at this critical juncture.

The Sri Lankan Finance Minister and the Indian External Affairs Minister also exchanged views on Indian projects and investment plans that focus the strengthening of Sri Lanka’s economy.

Jaishankar further requested Rajapaksa to release the Indian fishermen currently in Sri Lanka’s custody on humanitarian grounds as soon as possible.
