ADB funds provided for Medical Sector development used at ‘Project Director’s’ will: Kumudesh

The funds received from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the development of health services in Sri Lanka are being used at the will of the project director instead of having them accounted for the development of the health sector itself, revealed President of the Health Professionals’ Association Ravi Kumudesh.

Kumudesh alleged that the “Health Care Improvement Project” maintained under international debts and undertaken for the development of the health sector in the country has become a personal property of the grants directors.

The genetic sequencing machine, which cost Rs. 80 million, has not been used for five months, Kumudesh added, revealing that not a single test was performed to date and no ownership or purpose of purchase was disclosed to date.

The Health Professionals’ Association Chief also revealed that the international training sessions provided to the medical laboratory officers of the Mulleriyawa Laboratory for free by the Chinese government have also been cut arbitrarily by the project director, urging the government to conduct an immediate probe into the projects funded by the ADB.
