July 06, Colombo (LNW): The Government has not made any decision to bring an end to Sri Lanka’s QR code-based fuel distribution system, according to Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) Managing Director Mayura Neththikumara.
Speaking on the matter, Neththikumara said the digital fuel issuance programme will continue to operate as normal, adding that motorists and other fuel consumers should not expect any immediate changes to the current system.
He also reiterated that the country is expected to maintain a stable and uninterrupted fuel supply in the months ahead, providing reassurance amid growing public discussion over the future of the QR-based mechanism.
Addressing concerns over fuel allocations, Neththikumara noted that the authorities have not decided to either increase or reduce the existing fuel quotas. As a result, the present allocation limits will remain unchanged until any official announcement is made.
The clarification follows widespread speculation that the Government may be considering changes to the QR code system, which was introduced during the height of Sri Lanka’s fuel shortage to regulate distribution, minimise queues and ensure fair access to fuel across the country.
