July 06, Colombo (LNW): The Government has officially removed restrictions on the use of rice and paddy for the manufacture of animal feed, allowing the commodities to be utilised once again throughout the production and supply chain.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) announced that the gazette notification which previously prohibited the use of rice and paddy for animal feed has now been revoked, bringing an end to the temporary regulatory measure.
Under the revised gazette, there are no longer any limitations on using rice or paddy in the production of animal feed. The change also permits the processing, purchasing, selling, transporting, storing and distribution of these commodities for livestock feed without the earlier restrictions.
The CAA noted that the previous regulations had remained in force until 24 June as part of measures introduced to regulate the use of rice and paddy. However, following a review of the situation, the restrictions have now been formally withdrawn.
