August 06, Colombo (LNW): Due to the active southwest monsoon, the prevailing rainy and windy conditions over the southwestern parts of the island are expected to intensify from today and continue for the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Cloudy skies will prevail over these areas.
Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Galle districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara, Batticaloa, and Monaragala districts after 2.00 p.m.
Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over North-central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Condition of Rain: Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.
Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota Via Colombo, and Galle.
State of Sea: The sea areas off the coasts extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough or very rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas, until further notice.
