The University of Peradeniya has retained the top position in Sri Lanka in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, while securing 200th place globally.
The university recorded a score of 8,262.5 points, ranking 200th among 2,016 universities from 110 countries that participated in this year’s assessment.
The ranking recognises the university’s continued efforts to maintain a sustainable and environmentally friendly campus, while implementing sustainable development initiatives and promoting environmentally responsible practices.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings evaluate universities based on a range of sustainability indicators, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, education, governance and digitalisation.
The 2026 edition was conducted under the theme, “Advancing Sustainable Campuses through Governance, Digitalization, and Integrated Performance.”
With 2,016 universities from 110 countries participating, the 2026 rankings provide an international assessment of sustainability performance across higher education institutions.
By maintaining its leading position in Sri Lanka, the University of Peradeniya has continued to demonstrate its focus on sustainable development, environmental conservation and the promotion of an environmentally responsible campus culture.
