September 28, Colombo (LNW): Hayleys Engineering has entered into an official project agreement to undertake the construction of the first supermarket under the Hayleys Retail brand, with the inaugural outlet planned for Colombo 10.
The development will feature a purpose-designed steel-frame structure, with Hayleys Engineering set to draw on its full range of in-house capabilities to carry out the project. Its responsibilities will span engineering and structural design, fabrication, civil construction, steel erection and overall project execution.
The agreement represents the first tangible construction milestone in Hayleys Group’s planned expansion into the supermarket industry and is expected to pave the way for a wider rollout of Hayleys Retail outlets across the country. A number of similar developments are planned as the supermarket network takes shape.
The Hayleys Group first announced its move into the supermarket business in October 2025, outlining an ambitious plan to establish 100 supermarkets across Sri Lanka.
With the Colombo 10 project now formally under agreement, the group’s previously announced supermarket strategy has moved from the planning stage towards physical implementation, marking a new phase in its expansion into the country’s retail sector.
