September 28, Colombo (LNW): Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath is due to represent Sri Lanka at the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, delivering the country’s National Statement during the morning sitting.
The session is scheduled to begin at 9.00 a.m. local time, with Herath listed as the eighth speaker. His address is expected to take place between approximately 10.15 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. in New York, corresponding to 7.45 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. in Sri Lanka.
Herath arrived in New York on Saturday ahead of the 81st session of the General Assembly. In a post on X, he said he was looking forward to discussions with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, foreign ministers and senior UN officials.
The minister is also expected to hold a series of bilateral and diplomatic meetings alongside the main General Assembly programme. According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, his engagements include talks with Guterres, senior UN representatives and foreign ministers from several countries.
The visit is expected to provide Sri Lanka with an opportunity to present its priorities on the international stage while also pursuing discussions on matters of mutual interest with other governments and UN officials.
