Foot March in Support of Imprisoned Monk Enters Second Day

October 11, Colombo (LNW): A religious procession led by members of the Maha Sangha in support of imprisoned Buddhist monk Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero entered its second day today (11), with organisers calling for justice and the protection of monks’ religious rights.

The march began yesterday (10) near the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy under the banners “Justice for the Robe” and “National Determination Pooja and Freedom Foot March”.

Participants completed the opening stage of the journey in Kadugannawa last evening and resumed the march from the same area today.

Venerable Ulapane Sumangala Thero said the procession would continue through Kegalle, Warakapola, Nittambuwa and Kadawatha before concluding in Colombo on 15 October.

Organisers said the march was intended to draw attention to the concerns of Buddhist monks and to seek the release of Venerable Gnanasara Thero, who remains in prison.
