Norochcholai Power Units to Rejoin National Grid as Daily Power Cuts Ruled Out

The National System Operator (NSO) has announced that Unit 03 of the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant is scheduled to be reconnected to the national grid this morning, while Unit 01 is expected to resume operations and join the grid by this afternoon.

The three generating units at the power plant have a combined capacity of 810 megawatts, according to the NSO.

Meanwhile, the NSO stated yesterday that daily electricity supply management would no longer be necessary.

A nationwide power outage occurred at 11.43 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, following an imbalance in the electricity transmission system.

The incident caused all three generating units at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant to trip, disrupting electricity generation across the country.

In response, the National System Operator divided the country into four zones and introduced one-hour daily power cuts to manage electricity demand and stabilise the supply.
