SLBFE Warns Korean Language Test Applicants of Fake Payment Messages

October 29, Colombo (LNW): The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has cautioned candidates preparing to sit the 2026 Korean Language Test to remain alert to fraudulent text messages seeking to obtain money through unauthorised bank accounts.

The Bureau said it had received complaints about SMS messages impersonating the SLBFE and instructing applicants to transfer funds to bank accounts supposedly linked to the examination. It emphasised that these messages were scams and urged candidates not to follow payment instructions received through such channels without first confirming their legitimacy.

The warning comes as applications for the 2026 Korean Language Test are being made available online through the Bureau’s official website, www.slbfe.lk, during the application period from 26 to 30 October 2026.

To prevent applicants from losing money to fraudsters, the SLBFE has reiterated that examination-related payments must be made exclusively to the official bank accounts maintained in the Bureau’s name. The authorised accounts are as follows:

  • People’s Bank: 208100151791068
  • Bank of Ceylon: 0000001650
  • National Savings Bank: 100800442461

The Bureau has advised candidates to treat unexpected payment requests with caution, particularly messages that create urgency or provide unfamiliar account details. Applicants should not transfer funds merely because a message appears to have come from an official source.

Anyone receiving a suspicious SMS requesting money in connection with the Korean Language Test has been urged to contact the SLBFE emergency hotline on 1989 to verify the information before making any payment.

The Bureau has also encouraged prospective candidates to rely on its official website and recognised communication channels for accurate information about applications and examination procedures.

With fraudulent messages increasingly capable of appearing genuine, the SLBFE stressed that checking payment details in advance is an important precaution. Applicants are urged to remain vigilant throughout the application process and avoid sharing money or personal information in response to unverified instructions.
