Court Fixes February 2027 Date to Review AG’s Advice on Namal Rajapaksa Investigation

October 29, Colombo (LNW): The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has scheduled a further hearing for February 11, 2027 in the investigation involving Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and several others over an alleged financial transaction being examined under Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The latest development came after the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) informed the court that it had not yet received the Attorney General’s advice on the investigation.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered that the matter be taken up again on the scheduled date to determine whether the Attorney General’s guidance had been received and to establish the next steps in the proceedings.

Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, was not brought before the court when the case was called.

The investigation centres on an alleged investment of approximately Rs. 15 million in a company named N.R. Consultancy. The transaction is said to have taken place while Rajapaksa was serving as a Member of Parliament.

The FCID initiated the case in connection with the alleged investment and is investigating the matter under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to determine whether the transaction involved any unlawful activity.

With the Attorney General’s advice still outstanding, the next court date is expected to provide an update on the progress of the investigation and the status of the legal guidance sought by investigators. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing legal process.
