Sri Lanka Introduces Online Passport Appointments at Five Regional Offices

October 29, Colombo (LNW): The Department of Immigration and Emigration has introduced an appointment booking facility for passport applicants at five regional offices, with the new arrangement coming into effect today (29).

Under the system, members of the public can arrange their visits online through the department’s official website, www.immigration.gov.lk, allowing them to reserve appointments before travelling to the relevant office.

Department Media Spokesperson and Deputy Controller Mahesh Karunadasa confirmed the introduction of the facility, explaining that the service would be available at the regional offices in Kandy, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Matara.

The initiative is expected to help applicants organise their visits more conveniently and improve the management of passport-related services at these locations. Applicants are advised to use the official website to make their reservations and check the relevant arrangements before visiting a regional office.

However, the department has clarified that the online appointment system announced for these five locations does not apply to passport processing at its head office in Battaramulla.

Those seeking passports should therefore ensure that they follow the correct procedure for their intended service location, as the arrangements available at regional offices differ from those at the head office.
