The Department of Meteorology has declared a Red Warning over strong winds and turbulent seas, directed at multi-day fishing vessels operating in the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal.A well-marked low-pressure area near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Southeast Bay of Bengal has developed into a depression. At 11.30 a.m. on 31 October 2026, it was positioned close to 10.0°N, 90.2°E.
The system is expected to track west-northwestwards and grow into a deep depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by roughly 11.30 p.m. on 31 October. It is then likely to become a cyclonic storm by about 11.30 a.m. on 01 November, over the Southeast Bay and neighbouring parts of the Southwest and West-central Bay of Bengal. After that, it is forecast to head into the West-central Bay and come near the Andhra Pradesh coast by around 5.30 p.m. on 02 November.
Winds in the warned sea areas could gust up to 70 kmph, accompanied by heavy thundershowers and very rough seas, the Department noted.
Naval personnel and fishermen are urged to stay out of the deep-sea region between 10°N–15°N and 80°E–90°E until further notice. Anyone already at sea in this zone should head back to shore or seek safer waters.
The public and all sea-going communities are asked to remain alert and keep track of the Department’s upcoming forecasts and warnings.
