November 03, Colombo (LNW): The Police Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended a suspected member of an alleged international narcotics trafficking network during an operation in Wellampitiya, resulting in the seizure of approximately 1.03 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’.
The arrest was made following intelligence received by STF personnel, who subsequently carried out a targeted operation outside a residential property along Pansalhena Road.
A 40-year-old man from the area was taken into custody during the raid, with officers recovering the suspected narcotics from the operation.
According to police information, the arrested individual is believed to have close links with a local drug distribution network allegedly operated by an individual known as ‘Subha’. Investigators suspect that the network has connections to Dubai-based drug trafficker ‘Dubai Dhanushka’.
The authorities are now expected to examine the suspect’s alleged role in the distribution chain and investigate possible links with other individuals involved in the wider trafficking operation.
Both the suspect and the confiscated drugs have been handed over to Wellampitiya Police for further investigations.
Police are continuing inquiries to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any other parties connected to the suspected narcotics network.
