Colombo Gains Parliamentary Representation as Badulla Loses a Seat Under New Allocation

November 03, Colombo (LNW): The distribution of parliamentary seats across Sri Lanka’s electoral districts has been revised following changes in the latest electoral register, with Colombo and Badulla among the districts affected by the new arrangement.

Under the revised allocation announced by the Election Commission on 3 November, Colombo’s representation is set to increase from 18 to 19 seats, while Badulla will see its share reduced from nine to eight.

The changes reflect adjustments made to district-level parliamentary representation in line with the number of registered voters. The allocation is intended to ensure that parliamentary representation takes account of the changing distribution of the electorate across the country.

According to the Commission, the 2026 electoral register records more than 17.5 million eligible voters, forming the basis for determining the number of seats assigned to individual districts.
