Strict actions to be taken against suspended prison officers

Date:

Strict actions will be taken against prison officers who are suspended for various acts of corruption or harassment of prisoners, revealed the Department of Prisons.

In a statement, Prison Department Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake stated that it has been decided not to consider the reinstatement of these suspended officers until the end of disciplinary inquiries or court proceedings.

Any further enrolment of such persons could be detrimental to the well being of the Prison Department and the reputation of other officers, he noted.

Ekanayake further noted that a decision has been taken to dismiss the suspended officers it they are found guilty for their actions. The matter has been briefed to all prison superintendents as well.
