President says people should be informed in advance about power cuts, urges uninterrupted power supply

Date:

The ongoing power crisis was discussed at length at the Ruling Party members’ meeting held under the patronage of President Rajapaksa yesterday (07). The President stated that the aim of the government is to provide electricity to the people 24 hours a day without any interruption.

Following the meeting’s conclusion, MP Jagath Kumara told media that any power cut should be carried out at a minimum hindrance to the people. The President informed that the time in which power cuts occur must be informed to the people in advance, he added.

The Ruling Party MP also revealed that the President instructed the authorities to inform the relevant government bodies before any power cut and obtain approval.

Should a controlled power cut occur, it should be communicated to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) and proper approval obtained. But on several occasions in the recent past, power cuts were carried out without the PUCSL’s approval and without warning the public, leading to controversy.
