Showers, thundershowers indicate continuity across island: Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm expected (May 05)

May 05, Colombo (LNW): Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts after 1.00 p.m., with Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm being likely to occur at some places, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather forecast today (05).

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places elsewhere of the island during the afternoon or night.

Showers may occur in the Western province and in Mannar, Puttalam, Galle and Matara in the morning too.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places over the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.
Winds:
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
