People may not be able to have three meals, should economic collapse continue long-term: PM (VIDEO)

Date:

People may not be able to cover their three meals and may have to survive with only two should the economic collapse in the country continue long-term, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing a meeting with a group of professionals two days (03) ago.

“The worst is yet to come. You know, according to the current situation, we can only maintain the food supply until September-October. Lack of adequate fertiliser disrupted the last Yala and Maha seasons. We may not have to face a crisis situation until next February, if we receive enough fertiliser for the upcoming Maha season. Should the country’s economy collapse, a lot of jobs will be lost in the country, entrepreneurs collapse, and if this situation continues for a long time, the people of the country may not be able to have three meals a day. They may have to cover it with two. We need to eradicate hunger in the country. We need a couple of billions of dollars from outside parties for that. Without that money, the country will cease to exist. “

Contradictory to his latest comment, Wickremesinghe had made a promise after his swearing in as the Prime Minister that he will provide the people with three meals a day.
