The Hambantota District Programme for the ‘National War on Food Crop Production’ (Ahara Bhoga Nishpadana Jathika Sangramaya) commenced in Ambalanthota yesterday (04) under the patronage of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. Meanwhile, a group of farmers engaged in a protest near the gate of the Ambalanthota Divisional Secretariat where the meeting was held.
The protesters were waiting for the Minister to come out after the meeting, but as Amaraweera was not seen inside the vehicle that came out a tense situation occurred among the farmers.
The farmers continued to protest, swearing against the minister (hora Amathiya panala gihilla).
However, upon Media query, Amaraweera said he did not escape the situation from the backdoor and that he is ready to talk with the farmers.
