China’s President Xi Sends Condolences, Offers Support to Sri Lanka Amid Devastating Floods

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday conveyed a message of condolence to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressing sorrow over the severe flooding and extensive destruction caused by days of torrential rain across the island.

President Xi said he was deeply shocked by the high number of casualties and the considerable property damage resulting from the extreme weather conditions. Extending sympathies on behalf of the Chinese government and people, he offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to those affected by the disaster.

Underscoring the longstanding bilateral ties, Xi noted that China and Sri Lanka are strategic cooperative partners bound by a tradition of mutual support and enduring friendship. He affirmed China’s readiness to provide necessary assistance to help Sri Lanka respond to the crisis and support recovery efforts.

President Xi added that he is confident the Sri Lankan people, under the leadership of their government, will overcome the disaster and rebuild their communities at an early date.
