Cabinet Reshuffle: GL, Dinesh, Sarath to be removed. Police Ministry to be handed over to Dilum?

Date:

Ministers G.L. Peiris, Dinesh Gunawardena and Sarath Weerasekara are likely to be removed from their ministerial portfolios in the upcoming Cabinet Reshuffle, sources closer to the government disclosed.

Sources added that Peiris is likely to be appointed as the next Speaker as he had informed the top government leaders that he cannot hold his ministerial post.

The Ministry of Public Security currently held by Weerasekara, who is already at the centre of many troubles due to his conduct, is likely to be pinned to Dilum Amunugama, who is currently serving as the State Minister of Community Police Services.

D.V. Chanaka, another state minister, is also believed to be sworn in as a Cabinet Minister, sources added.

The Agriculture Ministry currently borne by Mahindananda Aluthgamage will also be taken back and given to Prasanna Ranatunga.

We previously reported that the Cabinet Reshuffle may likely to be held on January 10 instead of 12, but latest reports claim that it will inevitably be taking place on or before January 12 given that there is no auspicious time after the 12th.

But the tables could be turned in the last moment making the reshuffle into something previously unheard of, sources added.
