Local govt. elections postponed! An Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued extending the tenure of the Members of the Local Government Institutions

An Extraordinary Gazette Notification was issued last night (10) extending the tenure of the Members of the Local Government Institutions.

Accordingly, the term of office of these Members of Parliament has been extended till March 19, 2023.

The term of the current Members of Parliament elected in the local government elections held in February 2018 was due to end this month.

Accordingly, although a local government election is scheduled to be held soon, the term of office of the Members of Parliament has been extended by one year according to the powers of the Minister of Local Government and that election will be postponed until next year.
