Rs. 480 million donated to religious places via Central Cultural Fund misused!

About Rs. 480 million donated to religious places via the Central Cultural Fund in 2018 for development purposes has been misappropriated, disclosed the National Audit Office.

In a report issued on the affairs of the Central Cultural Fund, the National Audit Office details that the said funds, allocated under the ‘Sasunodaya’ Programme, have been distributed for the development of religious places, but the development has not been carried out properly. The follow-ups ought be carried out upon the disbursement of these funds for the development of the religious places have not been carried out by the Central Cultural Fund either, it added.

The report further divulged that the mandatory step of verifying the identity of the contributor while disbursing money through the Fund has not been done properly, adding that in 2019 alone, nearly Rs. 30 million have been misappropriated on 63 occasions due to informal payments.
