May 17, LNW (Colombo): Following a politically controversial Eurovision contest marked by several countries boycotting the event due to Israel’s continued participation, foreign media report that Bulgaria’s DARA has emerged as the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The spectacular competition, which marks its 70th anniversary and features pop performers from across Europe and beyond, had been overshadowed by controversy surrounding Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, launched in response to the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023.
According to media analysis and audience reactions, the results reflected a clear emotional and political undercurrent on stage, with “Bangaranga” ultimately establishing a new chapter in Eurovision history.
Bulgaria won the Eurovision 2026 title with a total of 516 points – including 204 points from the jury and 312 points from the public vote. Israel finished in second place with 343 points, while Romania secured 296 points. Bulgaria also became the first country since 2017 to win both the jury vote and the public vote.
