An inmate who was transferred to Boossa Prison following recent unrest at Negombo Prison has died after being admitted to hospital due to a sudden illness.
Prisons Media Spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake said the inmate’s health condition deteriorated while in custody, prompting prison authorities to admit him to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He later died while receiving medical care at the hospital.
No further details regarding the cause of death have been released.
