The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for residents of the Eastern Province and the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya and Monaragala.
Accordingly, the heat index, which reflects the temperature as felt by the human body, is expected to reach the ‘Caution Level’ in these areas during daytime today (24).
The Meteorology Department said the heat index forecast is calculated using relative humidity and the maximum air temperature to indicate the level of heat stress experienced by the human body.
It warned that prolonged exposure to the sun and outdoor activities could result in fatigue, while continued physical exertion may lead to heat cramps.
The public has been advised to remain well hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
