Showery conditions continue across districts: Rainfall expected to increase (July 27)

July 27, Colombo (LNW): A slight increase in rainfall is expected in the southwestern part of the island over the next few days, starting from Tomorrow (28).

For Today: Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern and North-central provinces and in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain: A few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds: Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu and from Chilaw to Hambantota via Galle.

State of Sea: The sea areas off the coasts extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar will be rough at times.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu and from Chilaw to Hambantota via Galle will be fairly rough at times.

The wave height may increase about (2.0 – 2.5) meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
