August 01, Colombo (LNW): The Ministry of Environment has announced that the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and Dialog Axiata PLC will enter into a strategic partnership next week to strengthen Sri Lanka’s electronic waste management efforts through a nationwide collection and recycling initiative.
The two parties are scheduled to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 03 at the Central Environmental Authority’s Head Office, officially launching the collaborative programme.
The initiative aims to establish an island-wide network of e-waste collection points, making it easier for households, businesses and institutions to safely dispose of unwanted electrical and electronic devices. By providing a structured disposal system, the programme seeks to minimise the environmental and health risks associated with the improper handling of electronic waste.
According to officials, the partnership will also focus on raising public awareness of responsible e-waste disposal practices while encouraging greater participation in recycling and sustainable waste management. The initiative is expected to help reduce pollution caused by discarded electronic equipment and support the recovery of valuable materials through environmentally sound recycling methods.
The Ministry said the collaboration reflects the Government’s commitment to environmental protection by fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors. Authorities expect the programme to play a key role in advancing national sustainability goals while promoting responsible consumption and improved waste management practices across the country.
