August 27, Colombo (LNW): The National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd has asked operators of rooftop solar installations above 300 kilowatts to temporarily halt electricity generation during daylight hours as power consumption is expected to fall over the holiday period.
Under the temporary arrangement, affected systems are to remain offline between 8am and 3pm each day, beginning on 27 August and continuing through Sunday.
The measure is intended to prevent an excessive supply of electricity from entering the national grid at a time when overall demand is likely to be subdued.
Officials said the temporary restriction forms part of efforts to maintain a stable balance between electricity generation and consumption and safeguard the reliability of the national power system.
Operators covered by the request have been urged to follow the specified shutdown schedule until the measure is lifted.
