August 30, Colombo (LNW): The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has rejected claims circulating on social media that the prices of powdered milk, condensed milk, yoghurt and other dairy products have recently been increased.

The Authority said a social media post presented as “BREAKING NEWS” had been widely shared, alleging that consumers would have to pay more for a range of dairy items. According to the CAA, however, there is no basis for the reported price increases and the information being circulated is false.

The public has been advised to exercise caution before forwarding such messages, particularly when they contain claims about sudden changes in the prices of essential goods. The Authority noted that unverified reports can cause unnecessary concern among consumers and potentially disrupt normal market conditions.

Consumers who notice unusual price changes or suspect other irregularities in the marketplace have been urged to contact the CAA directly rather than relying on social media reports. Complaints and information can be submitted through the Authority’s consumer hotline, 1977.
