September 07, Colombo (LNW): Government schools across the country are reopening today (07) as students return for the second phase of the third academic term.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that this phase of the school year will continue until 4 December 2026, when the third term is due to officially end.
The reopening also comes shortly before the 2026 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination, which is scheduled to take place from 8 to 17 December. Schools and students are therefore expected to enter the final stretch of the academic year with preparations for the national examination also gathering pace.
