The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has reminded taxpayers that the deadline for making the final income tax payment for the Year of Assessment 2025/2026 is September 30, 2026.

In a notice, the IRD urged individuals and businesses liable for income tax to settle their payments on or before the deadline to avoid applicable penalties and interest.

The deadline applies to Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Individual Income Tax (IIT) and Partnership Income Tax (PIT).

Taxpayers can make payments through the IRD’s Online Tax Payment Platform. Payments for CIT, IIT and PIT can also be made at any Bank of Ceylon branch.

Those making payments at a bank without a preprinted paying-in slip have been advised to include their Document Identification Number (DIN) on the payment slip to ensure the payment is properly recorded.

The IRD warned that interest and penalties will apply to late or non-payment of taxes. It further noted that interest imposed for late payment cannot be waived or reduced.

The department also cautioned that if a bank draft or pay order is realized after the payment deadline, the payment will be treated as a late payment.

Taxpayers requiring further information or assistance can contact the IRD hotline on 1944.
