Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath held discussions with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Minister Herath reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s longstanding commitment to United Nations peacekeeping operations and its continued support for international efforts to promote and maintain global peace, security and stability.
The Foreign Minister also briefed Lacroix on the progress made under Sri Lanka’s National Human Rights Screening Mechanism (NHRSM).
Sri Lanka has a longstanding record of contributing personnel to UN peacekeeping missions as part of its broader engagement in international peace and security efforts.
