SriLankan Airlines Rejects Cyberattack Claims, Says No Evidence of Data Breach Found

October 22, Colombo (LNW): SriLankan Airlines has dismissed reports alleging that its information technology infrastructure was compromised by hackers, maintaining that investigations have found no evidence of unauthorised access, data theft or disruption to its operations.

In a statement, the national carrier said it had launched immediate investigations and technical assessments, while implementing precautionary measures, after reports surfaced on June 29 claiming that its IT systems had been targeted in a cyberattack.

The airline said the assessments conducted so far had not established that any unauthorised party had gained access to its internal IT infrastructure or operational systems. It also reported no evidence of information being damaged, confidential data being stolen or its operational continuity being compromised.

According to SriLankan Airlines, all its systems and services remained functional throughout the period in question. Email services and other essential digital platforms continued operating without interruption, while flight operations and the airline’s ability to serve passengers were unaffected.

The carrier stressed that there had been no disruption to its services at any stage as a result of the alleged incident, rejecting suggestions that the reported cyberattack had interfered with its day-to-day activities.

SriLankan Airlines also firmly denied reports that hackers had demanded ransom payments in exchange for restoring access to its systems or preventing the release of information. It said no demand for payment in Bitcoin, US dollars or any other form had been received or established, adding that no negotiations concerning such a payment had taken place.

Reiterating its position, the airline rejected allegations that its IT systems had been accessed without authorisation or brought under the control of malicious actors.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over cybersecurity risks facing organisations that depend on interconnected digital infrastructure. For airlines, the integrity and availability of IT systems are particularly important for maintaining operational reliability and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of passenger services.

SriLankan Airlines said the findings of its investigations and technical assessments did not support the claims circulating about the alleged incident, maintaining that its systems and services had continued to operate normally.

The carrier’s clarification seeks to address concerns arising from the reports and reaffirm that no confirmed compromise of its IT or operational systems has been identified.
