Namal Rajapaksa to Appear Before Colombo High Court Bench in Airbus Case

October 27, Colombo (LNW): SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody in connection with the Airbus transaction case, is to be produced before a three-judge permanent High Court at Bar in Colombo on 28 October, following an order issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (27).

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama directed that Rajapaksa be presented before the High Court bench tomorrow. The Magistrate also ordered that a report on the matter be submitted to the Magistrate’s Court on 30 October.

Until Rajapaksa is produced before the High Court, he is to remain in custody, in accordance with the further directions issued by the Chief Magistrate.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday that indictments had been filed before the three-judge permanent High Court at Bar against Rajapaksa and several other defendants in connection with the Airbus transaction.

The case concerns alleged wrongdoing linked to the Airbus deal and is now proceeding before the High Court following the filing of indictments. The latest order concerns Rajapaksa’s production before that court and the continued custody arrangements pending the next stage of proceedings.
