October 29, Colombo (LNW): Several bank accounts held by Rakitha Rajapaksa, son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, have been frozen as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected financial irregularities.
The action was taken under legislation that allows authorities to restrict access to funds and assets believed to have been obtained through criminal activity. The move forms part of an inquiry being conducted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Commission officials reportedly visited Rakitha Rajapaksa’s residence in Nawala yesterday to formally inform him of the decision to freeze the accounts. However, the team was unable to deliver the notification in person, as he was not at home at the time of their visit.
