Heat index advisory hits 18 districts; heavy showers above 50mm likely to occur

Colombo (LNW): The heat index advisory happens to strike at some places in Western, North-Western, Northern, North-Central and Eastern Provinces and Moneragala, Ratnapura and Hambantota Districts on a ‘caution’ level, announced the Department of Meteorology.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central, Uva and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts during the afternoon or night, and fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places, announced the Department of Meteorology said in its weather report today (25).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places elsewhere during the afternoon or night.

Showers may occur in Galle and Matara districts during the morning too.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea area around the island during the night.
Winds:
Winds will be south-easterly over sea area around the island and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.
State of Sea:
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
