Police personnel interdicted, transferred over death of woman in custody

Colombo (LNW): Several Police personnel have been interdicted and transferred over the death of a woman who was in Police custody.

Accordingly, a Sub-Inspector, two Sergeants and a Police Constable attached to the Welikada Police Station were interdicted, and two Women Police Constables were transferred over the incident, revealed Police Spokesman Thalduwa.

The deceased, R. Rajakumarai, was a 41-year old resident of Badulla who served as a domestic worker at a local producer’s residence.

She was arrested on May 11, based on a complaint by her employer accusing her of stealing gold jewellery.
