Grenade Probe: Court releases three suspects

Three suspects arrested and kept on custody in alleged connection with the hand grenade recovered in the All Saints Church, Borella have been released as per the order of the Colombo Magistrate Court today (02).

This was when the case was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya today.

Among the suspects was the caretaker of the Church.

The Attorney General’s Department requested the Court to release the three suspects due to the unsubstantial evidence. Accordingly, one suspect who was in remand custody and two other who were under detention orders have been released.

The retired medical officer who is in custody over the event is still being detained and interrogated and the Additional Magistrate has granted the approval to a request made by the Colombo Crimes Division to inspect the bank accounts belonging to him and his family members.
