Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan Organizes Live Sri Lankan Cuisine Competition for Japanese People

The Embassy of Sri Lankain Japan with the assistance of two award-winning Sri Lankan chefs organized a Sri Lankan cuisine competition for people in Japan. The competition receivedover 140 applications with a live video showing the preparation of their favorite SriLankan dish of which 45 contestants were chosen for the semifinals.The semifinals,consisting of 5 rounds of 9 contestants in each round,were conducted at a professional cooking studio. The judges picked two contestants from each round for the finals, which the Embassy hopes to air live in the future. The five semifinal rounds will bebroadcasted at three to four week intervals through the Embassy’s Facebook account andother Japanese YouTube food channels.Competitors had one hour to prepare their favorite Sri Lankan dishes whichincluded curries, short eats and desserts that were cooked and presented with creativity and exceptional quality. The Embassy hopes to fly down an internationally-acclaimed chef for the finals with thesponsorship of Sri Lankan Airlines and broadcast it through a popular local televisionstation.
