No Decision to Retrieve Thai Gifted Elephants: Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka

Poj Harnpol, the Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, affirmed that the Thai Government has not made any decision to request the return of the Thai Raja and Kandula elephants, which were gifted to Sri Lanka. The Ambassador clarified that despite speculation circulating on social media, there have been no discussions or decisions at the diplomatic level regarding the elephants’ return.

The Ambassador made these remarks during his visit to Kandy on the 6th of July to inquire about the well-being of Thai Raja, the elephant gifted to Sri Dalada Maligawa by the Thai Government 37 years ago. He reassured that Thai Raja is in good health. Furthermore, after paying respects at Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Ambassador engaged in a discussion with Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilangala Dela, further strengthening ties between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
