Are media reports on former MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s release true? (VIDEO)

Despite the claims made by several media bodies that former MP Ranjan Ramanayake is to be granted full freedom by the President on the 74th Independence Day tomorrow, no written order was received to the Prison Department on such a release yet, revealed Media Spokesperson for the Prison Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake, speaking to a briefing held today (03).

He noted that every media body has raised queries in this regard, adding that 197 prisoners, nevertheless, will be released on the Independence Day, in accordance with the President’s powers.

Meanwhile, inmates will be given a special meal tomorrow and will have the opportunity to meet visitors.
